It includes, for example, mechanical risks, slip resistance, thermal risks and ergonomic behaviour. The toecap protects the wearer’s toes against risk of injury from falling objects and crushing when worn in work environments where potential hazards may occur. The midsole protects against the foot being pierced by underfoot objects. The updated EN ISO 20345:2022 version introduces further categories to the standards table as defined below. CLASSIFICATION EN ISO 20345 was updated in 2022 with revised requirements for slip resistance, perforation resistance and water resistance while also introducing new optional requirements for scuff caps and soles with a ladder grip. Mandatory Requirement Optional Requirement CLASS Penetration resistance of metallic perforation resistant inserts Penetration resistance against 4.5mm nail of non-metallic perforation inserts Penetration resistance against 3.5mm nail of non-metallic perforation inserts Electrical properties: Antistatic footwear Resistance to inimical environments: Cold insulation of sole complex Energy absorption of seat region Water resistant Metatarsal protection Water penetration and absorption Resistance to hot contact Resistance to fuel oil Scuff cap Ankle protection Ladder grip
